Ray JonesI was one of the participants at a recent Evangelism Disciple Making Church conference—sponsored by the Presbyterian Mission Agency. It helped me refocus on some practices that, once again, are giving my life deeper meaning and stability.

My takeaway from the conference is this: as followers of Jesus we have to do what he did, “drive away the crowds” (Matthew 14). Those “crowds” could be people, to-do-lists, inboxes that seem to have limitless e-mail coming in. Whatever the crowds are for you, I encourage you to withdraw to a lonely silent, solitary place to pray.

Not only for the purpose of telling God what is on our hearts, but to listen to God. I am discovering again how this helps me know more fully the will of God, as the soil of my heart is tilled.

I actually have kept the Sabbath twice since the conference (January 19-22). As you read the stories below, be encouraged. Find ways to experience again the sense of Jesus Christ present to you. Grace, Ray Jones

UKirk board meets in monastic community: Collegiate ministry network for Presbyterian Church, (U.S.A.) identify several key characteristics present in UKirk ministries—they want to lift up in 2015 and beyond.

  1. Radical hospitality
  2. Intentional ecumenism
  3. Engagement in critical thinking
  4. Local and national social justice campuses
  5. Emphasis on intergenerational spiritual formation through PC(USA) churches that are adjacent to campuses.

Board member Erica Liu of the Pres House at University of Wisconsin-Madison said that the Presbyterian tradition brings a “healthy history of critical thinking” that gives space for campus ministers to walk beside students who are questioning and trying to find their way on the faith journey.
